Even with the darkness coming out in the world, from Orlando, the political scene and beyond, this is a cycle of light in all of its purity. Monday’s full moon, the second in Sagittarius, sign of expansion and blessings, is aligned with the summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the Western hemisphere. The full moon is the climax of the lunar month, the summer solstice is the climax of the solar year. Both the moon and sun reach climax together in a potent and powerful union of fire. Fire is the transforming quality of spirit. It is a manifestation of light, giving us warmth, clarity, illumination. But lots of light is not just about the “good side.” Purity is not always innocent.
Read MoreWhen the moon enters Gemini, we become aware of the duality within. The ways we try to control our freedom, the way we try to organize our thoughts. Gemini is fast — dare I say the swiftest of all twelve signs? Ruled by Mercury, she is like quick silver. She can make the mind race with opposing thoughts, she might over schedule, over socialize and overwhelm the earthier signs. She is a social butterfly, a spring hummingbird, eager to soak up everyone and everything she can. This is the sign of the shift from spring to summer. This is the cycle common to travel, parties and shaking up our seemingly boring regular lives in the desire for something different. Gemini gets bored fast. When she is bored, she gets dangerous: she makes up stories, gossips, lives in fantasy. Unlike her air siblings, Aquarius, the higher mind, or Libra the aligned mind, Gemini is the mutable thought process. She can get us out of mental trouble or push us deeper into it.

Read MoreThis entire month, the climax of spring, is ruled by Taurus. The sun entered the Earth Goddess vibe a few weeks ago, and on Friday May 8th, the moon joins in. Taurus is a fixed sign, because she holds the power of the current season. She is deep earth, like ancient tree roots, and her worship is one of the senses. She is the reason for mantras like, “stop and smell the roses,” and Taurus asks us to pause in the busy-ness between spring and summer to enjoy the delights that abound. Wildness is on my mind, it is stirring in my soul and my body, and is eager to play. After all, it is Beltane, and I have always associated this ritual with naked pagans running around the fire, making love in the grass, laughing and singing. This does occur at many a Beltane gathering, and may it continue every year! But the truth is, wildness is not always what we think it is.
Read MoreThursday’s full moon is considered “lunar Beltane” by those that celebrate the wheel of the year. Beltane is the mid point between spring equinox and summer solstice. It is a juicy, fertile, delicious moment. It is also ripe for revelation, became we are so open to receive. Just because it is Scorpio does not mean what is revealed has to “bad.” Scorpio can just as easily show us how to better live in truth or how to step into our power. We might be surprised how much we repress our hopes, as well as our fears.
Read MoreThe fire carried by this sign is the fire that keeps life going, the heat that evolution is made of. This season brings miracles like flowers from buds, babies from eggs, butterflies from cocoons. One moment a tree is bare, the next it is in full blossom. It’s like magic.
When focused and aligned with spiritual or higher purpose, the Aries new moon can be magic. It can be the moment we have been waiting for to transform our lives, to take the next step (or leap), and to awaken our true power.
Read More“With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child.” This is the line that echoed in my head this morning as I sat outside with my son. We have been home resting for a few days, under the weather yet again. I was moodily musing that we have spent more time down than up since winter solstice and how eagerly I am awaiting the official awakening of spring for hopefully a healthier season.

I’m a military kid, so home is a funny concept for a me, and I know many others who struggle with the idea. What is a home? What makes one? Is it love? Is it a mortgage? Is it the people? Especially in a time where we hear more and more about refugees fleeing their “homes,” and animals losing their natural habitats to disaster and global warming, it can be a word that brings grief, fear or anger.
Read MoreIn the language of astrology, spirit is represented by the element of fire. It is fitting that this cycle of increasing night as we move closer to winter solstice, the sun’s rebirth, (December 21st) is ruled by the celestial flames of Sagittarius. Sagittarius was made for long cold nights telling amazing tales around a bonfire. Sagittarius, ruled by bright, benevolent, gregarious Jupiter, is the essence of whimsical characters like Santa Claus or Frosty the Snowman. Energy that is larger than life, magical, joyful and lives to bring happiness to others is spirit’s way of balancing such a cold and lumin-less cycle.
