Sagittarius Full Moon ~ Friday, May 24, 2013 @ 9:25 pm (PST) – It has been quite a month and a half. This past Monday May 20th was the 3rd of 7 squares between Uranus and Pluto. This cycle started last year and goes for a couple more. Uranus, ruling lightning, freedom and breaking boundaries squares Pluto, ruler of transformation, power and the underworld. These 7 line-ups are prolific and herald a new age, one where the old ways of power can be destroyed (or can destroy us) and new ways of living hit us quickly and permanently. Interesting that square number three, hits just at the end of a three part eclipse cycle, that started with Scorpio, moved to Taurus and now finishes with Sagittarius.
An astrologer I really respect likens the 7 Uranus/Pluto squares to the seven chakras of our energetic anatomy. Chakra means wheel in Sanskrit and these seven energy centers connect us to all the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of ourselves as broken down in each chakra, moving from the base of spine to the crown of the head. In a sense, these squares are cleansing and re-setting the global and individual chakras which to me, as one who has studied and taught chakra yoga for many years, really resonates with. And yet another interesting connection is that the third chakra, based in the solar plexus, ruling independence, confidence, courage, commitment, power and will, is being activated the same week we experience our final eclipse moon which is in the fiery sign of Sagittarius. Fire is the element associated with the third chakra.
3 of 7 squares, 3 of 3 eclipses, 3 of 7 Chakras, ruled by fire. Welcome to the Sagittarius Full Moon and partial lunar eclipse of 2013.
Lunar eclipses, in general, support a letting go, whereas solar eclipses, like the one we had May 10th, represent a beginning. The eclipse that opened this vortex, April 25th, was a partial lunar, as well. The pulsation then, was ending in Scorpio, beginning through Taurus and now a closing out of anything else that does not serve us with Sagittarius. Water, to purify, earth, to ground and now fire, to transform.
The big planets are in action, changes are in motion, and we are less than a month from summer solstice, the climax of the solar year. What is being released must let go, what is being birthed must come forth. We are all connected, each being to every star, planet and life form. We are in this together, yet having our own journey’s at the same time. Some believe the greatest changes of our lifetimes will happen between 2012 and 2015, the global paradigm shifts and each of us with it. Some also believe that we are powerless over what happens, that our individual experiences cannot add to the change. This is where the third chakra and Sagittarius cry out, ” We each have power. We each are co-creators to the life being formed now. We have to stand in our powers and personal fires and speak our truths.”
The best way to honor this week’s square and to tune into the full moon, in my opinion, is to focus on the future you see in the flames. I love the show Game of Thrones, and I love the books even more. One of the characters, the red lady, Melisandre, is one of a few key people who worship the “Lord of Light.” This is a God of fire and one way the priest/esses see his will is to look into the fire. Scrying through flames is not a new concept, it has been around for probably as long as we have had the knowledge of fire. One of my Shaman teachers used to read the fire and smoke at our yearly gatherings. It is a beautiful skill and incredible to behold.
My suggestion, on this full moon, is to look into the flames, but rather than just trying to see what is there, see if you can call forth your own vision. The third chakra is your will, your personal commitments and intentions. Sagittarius is all about stories and myths told around the bonfire, or even songs sung and dances danced as the flames rose. Jupiter, Sag’s planet, is the good luck planet and he loves a great imagination and a positive outlook. Imagine the future you want as you look into the light, focus on it, say it out loud, chant, sing, dance, fill your solar plexus with such heat and passion for this vision that you can’t help but see it before you in the fire. Let the fire burn away all doubts, despairs and fears until just what you want remains.
Make this as creative or simple ceremony as you want. Even a simple candle under the full moon will suffice, or have a big party around a bonfire. Honor Jupiter and the third chakra with your celebration. Yes, things are changing, and some things are going away. But when we focus on what we are losing, or on the negative, we fill our minds with that, and then that is often what we still carry with us. Change your luck by focusing on what you want, as grand as it can be, for you and the world. Use all your will and fire to bring that image forth and the rest will gently fall away, just like the shadow of the lunar eclipse.
I wish you love, light, warmth, creativity and joy on this full moon. May all beings be happy and free, and may our practices, our transformations, support all others in creating their own happiness and freedom.
