Leo Full Moon ~ Saturday January 23rd at 5:46 pm PST
I almost didn’t think I would get this written. I feel like I have been in the dark for a week! Travel, snow, rain, grad school intensive, illness, mercury retrograde, oh my! It has been a lot of stress and keeping my head looking down.
Tonight, for the first time in several days, I stepped outside alone and looked up at a clear night sky. I was almost amazed that the moon was so close to full, it seemed the new moon was just a moment ago. I took a deep breath to slow down and take it in, and I could already feel the light of Leo starting to fill my weary soul.
The sun has just entered the sign of Aquarius, the ruler of mid-winter. Aquarius’s partner in astrology is Leo, the only sign actually ruled by the sun itself. It is rather perfect that Leo shines her lunar spotlight at this point in the season. January is dark for most of us, on this side of Mama earth, anyway. It’s also cold. Dreary. Often miserable when you couple the challenging weather with the height of cold and flu season. And taxes.
Leo, for me, holds the energy of our center star. She reminds us that the sun is always shining, even if we can’t see or feel it. She represents the sustainable quality of life and light, ever resilient, ever hopeful, ever powerful. Even on the darkest, coldest nights, or in our most fearful, grieving moments, there is light. It might be the stars above, the moon waxing or waning. It might be the light of a friend’s smile or a loved one’s eyes. It is in the flicker of life force still forcing breath and blood in and out in your sacred body. It can be found in the subtle signs of nature slowly making her way to spring.
I don’t know how you are feeling, but I think we can all generally use a little light at the end of January. The holidays are over and winter is only half way through. I am exhausted. I am also so thankful for all of the blessings in my life. I am so grateful for the sun, offering it’s unconditional warmth as best as it can each day. I am deeply grateful for the moon, in her full moon face, filling my spirit up with moon nectar. Sharing our gratitude is one simple way to recognize the ever present light. Even when I think there can’t possibly be one light quality to a situation, if I really breathe into it, I know one will emerge. It’s just the way of things on this planet.
Leo is fixed fire, the potion that heals the soul. Go out there this weekend and get some. No right or wrong way how, just focus on the light, and let it enter the coldest, darkest places within you. Let it take away some of the dampness, some of the coolness. Allow the healing elixir of full moon fire to brighten your winter night. Share it with a friend, Leo loves a crowd, the more the merrier! Celebrate anything you can, laugh as much and as long as you can. Drink up the light, bottle it in your heart and pass it around. Trust the Leo flame will get us through the second half of winter and maybe even beyond. Trust that no matter what else, you can keep going, as long as you focus on the light.
I’m trying to keep it short and sweet in these final days of Mercury retrograde! Praying for and sending abundant love, light, and health to you, all beings and the earth herself during this fiery full moon.
