I’m an avid lover of anything first chakra, so I just had to share this with you — an online article about living furniture. That’s right, furniture that is still alive and a part of nature. My favorite is this pooktre chair that artist Peter Cook began growing in 1998.
The article also contains a lawn chair that is actually made of lawn, a bench by treenovation that has a couple trees growing right into the design, and a bench that is infested with mushrooms (on the underside, thankfully).
If these nature-oriented artist-furniture-makers have inspired you, you can grow your own furniture too. Three of the seven pieces of living furniture allow you to be a part of the creation process.
There’s a grow-your-own grass armchair, a greenhouse shaped as a chair that will encourage willow branches to grow into the shape of a chair, so eventually you can actually bring it inside, and also this little chair planter that allows you to grow a vine up one leg (the simplest design of the bunch).
So, if you liked growing those avocado pits in a glass as a kid, you might like growing some of your own furniture as an adult. The process has got to be a great root chakra booster.
