Sagittarius New Moon ~ Saturday, November 22, 2014 4:32am PST
Within three hours of each other, both the sun and moon leave the watery underworld of Scorpio to ignite the warm, dancing flames of Sagittarius.
This transition could not come at a better time. What.a.month. What.a.season. What.a.year.
Sag is a mutable sign, one of those that rolls in to dissolve the old cycle and prepare for the new. Autumn was truly a time of harvest, of reaping what we have sown over 2014 and perhaps even a lifetime, or a couple lifetimes, individually and collectively. Everyone I know, everything I have read, tells a similar story of submission to the higher powers. For some, this is a welcome surrender, bringing much needed change, for others, well, let’s say there has been some resistance. Futile, yes, but sometimes struggle is part of the dance.
The last weeks of fall and the beginning of winter feel slightly sweeter, if I dare say it. Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, the gentle, generous, lucky giant of our solar system. Through Jupiter’s playful and lucky attitude, the Sag cycle can feel like a toasty blanket, just out of the dryer, after the cold, wet depths of Scorpio. Sag wraps us up and sits us in front of a huge, beautiful bonfire and comforts us with stories of possibilities, of how our wounds can become medals, our losses, victories, our journeys, adventures. Once we have thawed, inside and out, she takes our hands and begins to dance with us, encouraging us to shake and shimmy, jump and scream, to move our bodies to get out of our heads, release our emotions and awaken the spirit.
Fire is the element of the spirit, after all, and Sagittarius represents the wild light within, the whisper that encourages boldness, risk taking and belief in magic.
Can you believe in magic? Can you be bold? One of the gifts of Scorpio stripping us down to the bones is that there is no longer anything left to fear, and perhaps we see there is nothing to lose. Life is too precious not to dance, not to stand close to the soul-fire and shake what our mama gave us, namely, our dreams, our hearts, and our passions.
As 2014 winds down and the longest nights creep in, I invite you to spend the darker times in the company of gypsies, magicians, dreamers, story tellers and mythological beings. Welcome them to your home, into your life. Get up and dance with them as the Sagittarius fire inspires and illuminates. Maybe they appear in a book, or movie, on the radio or in meditation. Perhaps they exist in the souls of your friends and family, just waiting for an opportunity to play. Let yourself play a little, this cycle. Sometimes play is a part of the dance, too. It is all a part of the dance. The struggle, the resistance, the surrender, the play and the magic. Sagittarius gives us a glimpse of it all in its giant, loving soul-fire. You just have to be willing to join.
Many blessings for a warm, loving, transformative cycle,
