Time to Surrender
What does it mean to surrender? Is it really as sweet as the songs say? Or is it bitter, like the waving of a white flag after losing the war? I can tell Pisces has taken hold of the astrological kingdom when resistance becomes futile and a deep soul exhaustion sinks in.
Cycles are all around us, as well as within us. According to the cycle of western astrology, Pisces is the end of the current road. She is considered the last sign, mutable water, the energy that contains all the other signs and with her tears of empathy, washes the slate clean.
She carries the power of letting go into the unknown; of full release and complete surrender. Pisces rules dreams, psychic realms, the unconscious and intuition. She feels everything and can hold space for every emotion and experience. Linear time doesn’t matter to Pisces because it is a construct of the mind, and she has an awareness of the infinity within cycles, that really never end and are always in a state of beginning.
Each new moon offers a stronger chance at a new beginning, particularly in the area and element of the incoming lunar sign. This possibility is heightened when a solar eclipse joins the party, as it is doing this month. We actually have less eclipses this year than we have had in the last few (thank goodness!), but that does indicate that this one, the total solar eclipse of 2016, is pretty important.
My experience with Pisces has taught me that the only way to tap into the message she is trying to bring, is to surrender to the process. This is not an active cycle, it is a receptive one. Pisces asks us to let go of our busyness, to subdue of our activities, and simply be. Through that space of letting go, a few things can occur. One is that we can actually sense the wisdom of Pisces as the wise elder. This voice is usually hard to hear among the louder voices, like those ofAries or Gemini. But when we stop trying, doing, thinking, going – and when we choose to be in nature, in meditation, in trance, in dreams, this soft whisper can lift the heaviest of weights off our shoulders and allow us the chance for true renewal.
The old wise one is not going to force this on us. She has all the time in the world. But with the eclipse adding to the Piscean moon stream, it seems a good idea that we try and receive her. The wise elder knows how hard we have been trying, she has seen our struggles, our victories and losses. She has heard our stories and excuses. She has felt our every ache and each glow of pleasure. She, more than any other ally out there, knows where we have been. She knows our heart and what we really want. And in the foggy, fluid abyss of Pisces, she can wrap her celestial arms around us and say, “oh, sweetie, you have done so much, worked so hard. Let’s just take a little rest.” and like a baby being rocked in safe, strong arms, like a leaf in the wind or a stick on the river, we are held in buoyancy. We float as we surrender effortlessly. We are seen. We are heard. There is nothing more to do but let go.
And when that inner child is embraced by the wise elder, over the next month or so, our egos and injuries can be shed. A spring equinox and Aries new moon draw near, the symbolic energy of youth. We will have the support and inspiration to burst forth. We have rested, released and will be ready to shine in the initial sparks of spring.
But first. The surrender.
Blessings for a powerful and peaceful cycle,
