Boost Your Sacral Chakra with Pumpkin Peanut Butter Soup

Welcome to the second week of “Feed Your Soul.” In this post, we’re excited to share a delicious recipe to help you boost your second (sacral) chakra: Pumpkin Peanut Butter Soup.

Remember, the second chakra is about change and going with the flow, so if you’ve never tried a peanut butter soup before, this is the perfect opportunity to open up your taste buds and expand your diet.

As we explained last week, the easiest way to know which chakra a particular food boosts is to look at the color of the food – it should match the chakra.

The second chakra is orange, and it’s related to the element of water, so the quintessential sacral foods are those that are orange and liquidy – like our soup. Keeping this in mind, fresh squeezed orange juice is a great choice too, as well as the juice of any of these other fruits:  mangos, nectarines, papayas, cantaloupe, passion fruit, and one sweet veggie – the carrot.

Other orange foods you can use to boost your sacral chakra are: salmon, orange bell peppers, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, and persimmons. And the oils in most nuts make them good “flow” foods (aka second chakra stimulators).  Try cashews, pecans, almonds, filberts, hazelnuts, brazil nuts, pine nuts and the super-decadent macadamia nut.

The second chakra is also related to sweetness, so all desserts and sweets are sacral energy enhancers. And of course, sexual foods – aphrodisiacs — (regardless of their color) are good for expanding sacral energy. These include such things as: figs, oysters, honey, truffles, wine and chocolate.

We believe any food can be an aphrodisiac, when you’re with the right person, so it’s our hope that with the first signs of colder weather, you’ll snuggle up to your lover, and serve him (or her) some of this delicious pumpkin peanut butter soup. Or just treat yourself to a bowl after a vigorous work out or a chilly outing.

If you have trouble getting your children to eat their vegetables, the addition of peanut butter here may just convert them. In any case, the high beta-carotene content in pumpkin means this recipe will give your skin a healthy glow.

Pumpkin Peanut Butter Soup

4 TBSP butter

5 C canned pumpkin puree

1 C sweet potato puree

4 C broth (chicken, or carrot-based vegetable broth)

2 C orange juice (unsweetened)

1 tsp freshly ground pepper

1 tsp salt

1 packet stevia (alt. agave syrup or honey)

Fresh chives, snipped

Chili flakes, good quality

Lots of Love

Melt butter in large stockpot over medium-low heat (do not brown).  Stir in the pumpkin puree, sweet potato puree and peanut butter.  Mix these, and then add broth, orange juice, fresh ground pepper and salt.  Patiently incorporate these ingredients, reduce heat and simmer lightly for 20 minutes.  Make sure you’ve added in some love, and you’re done.

To serve, top each bowl with a generous sprinkle of both chili flakes and then snipped fresh chives and a light grind of pepper.
