I fell this week… hard. And it wasn’t pretty. In fact, if someone had recorded it with their phone camera, I’m pretty sure it would now be on youtube racking up the views (for a good laugh).
I was on the gym treadmill walking briskly with a 12 lb. weight in each hand (being the fiery 3rd chakra girl that I am), when I tripped and… given that my hands were full, fell pretty flat onto the treadmill belt –which then shot me off the end like a gumdrop on a candy factory conveyer belt. When my knees hit the ground at the end of the belt, my neck dropped down onto the edge of the sandpapery treadmill as it shaved off a nice bit of my skin.
I think I even smelled smoke (but I’m pretty sure it was just my imagination).
To sum it all up… OUCH.
Thankfully, though, it wasn’t life-threatening in any way, and it actually was pretty funny. But nobody witnessed it (thank god), because the gym was empty. I live in a small town, where I often get the whole gym to myself after 9 or 10 pm.
Still, I’ve been walking around this week with two big neck injuries that makes it look like a shark was trying to give me a hickey.
In case you think my fall wasn’t funny, here’s the youtube video I would have ended up on had my fall been recorded:
Being the good life coach/student of life that I am, I couldn’t let this opportunity go by without learning something, right?
So here are the lessons I learned from my treadmill mishap:
1. We ARE going to fall in life (even if we’re old enough to find a skinned knee — or neck — amusing)
2. Never carry anything on a moving treadmill (I know, that one’s deep).
3. Our bodies are amazingly intelligent and they know how to heal (if we stay out of the way). I haven’t had to direct this healing one iota. My body is running this show quite well on it’s own, and it’s amazing to watch.
4. You should never take yourself too seriously. That way, when you land face first on the ground, you’ll laugh rather than cry (or at least, do both).
5. It’s really hard not to pick a big scab — to just let it be — and I think this carries over into many areas of our lives. I have a habit of always wanting to rush mother nature, and this injury is a good reminder to me that nature knows the perfect timing and my ego needs to just settle down and wait.
6. There are no coincidences. Wherever you “get” an injury, chakra energy needs to be released. In my case it was the feminine side between my heart and my throat chakra. My feminine service and purpose — loving and listening — two things that I’ve been wanting to engage in more. Which leads to #7…
7. Be careful what you ask for!
8. Celebrate all your bumps, bruises and scars. They are what makes you (and me) human and if we connect them like dots, they tell our (very interesting) story.
9. Coconut oil is great for boo boos — especially those that might scar.
Have I missed some lessons? If you have any that are obvious to you (don’t say tie my shoe laces, please, because they actually were tied — I guess I’m just klutzy).
May you have a stable week, and if not, may you learn much from your little mishaps.
xoxo,
Vicki
