Do you communicate with your Higher Self? Or the Universe? Do you do so through divination tools or simple meditation and prayer?
In this week’s post and video I explore a few simple ways you can better communicate with that part of you that is wiser and more vast; the part of you that is connected to Spirit and all that is.
I’ve noticed with my clients over the years that communicating with your Higher Self or The Divine Realms can seem like a daunting task. Spiritual endeavors like this can feel so sacred and important that we doubt our ability to do them right.
I’m here to tell you that if you bring a sincere intention into your practice of communicating with your Higher Self, there’s no way to you can do it wrong. Spirit speaks all languages and appreciates your desire to connect.
I realize that I’m blurring lines here and being imprecise. Many would say that the Higher Self is different from Spirit and even Spirit is different from the Universe.
I get it. And I’m fine with you making those finer distinctions. But for me, it all goes into one big, beautiful category of “Communication With Something Larger Than My Ego; Something from a Higher Realm That Offers Me A More Vast Perspective.”
I’ve got a few simple suggestions on how to better communicate with this other realm/other part of the Self.
First of all, don’t take it too seriously. Yes, it’s sacred, but it doesn’t have to be lofty and you shouldn’t allow it to intimidate you. It’s just you communicating with some aspect of the Divine, and we’re all Divine.
Second, make it fun. Not only do we not have to be furrow-browed serious about it, but we can actually have some fun with it. There are lots of fun divination tools – tons of different kinds of oracle cards and pendulums, and old standards like the Ouija Board – that we can use to make the process more playful.
I particularly like Doreen Virtue’s Goddess Oracle Cards and the Animal Medicine Cards by David Carson. I also really like using pendulums and observing the signs and symbols the Universe is showing me in my every day life. (You can check out my post on symbols here ).
My favorite technique is to do something I can a “Dictionary Reading.” It’s super quick and easy and I get really good results. Just grab a big, thick collegiate-type dictionary. Close your eyes, focus on what you want to ask, and then do so out loud. Open the dictionary at random and let your finger land on a word or phrase. Then, once you’ve read the word you finger landed on, look to see what entry this is part of – what word it is defining — unless your finger falls on an actual entry.
I have received the most amazing insights and guidance with this technique over the years, the most incredible of which is shared in the video above. I actually asked the Universe for a miracle, and I got one! I talk about it in the last couple minutes of the video. If you want to check into the event I got that unbelievable reading on,
Another technique I really like is one I got from my dear friend, Life Coach and Best-Selling Author, Farhana Dhalla. She says that when it comes to Yes/No type decisions like should I stay or should I go, you should flip a coin
That’s right, flip a coin. Heads means yes, tails means no (or vice versa if you prefer).
The coolest thing about a coin-flip is this: the “answer” you get from the coin is not nearly as important as your gut reaction to that answer.
The coin is actually a sort of prop in this instance that helps you feel what you really want deep inside.
In truth, all divination tools can play this role, but it’s easiest with yes/no type techniques.
Since the possible answers are opposite, your reaction to the one that doesn’t feel right will have a tendency to be more extreme.
So flip the coin, notice your reaction to the coin’s “answer,” and you have your real answer. I think it’s a pretty clever way to figure out what you really want deep down – in that place beyond the conscious mind.
Of course, these are just a few simple suggestions.
There are lots of other ways to communicate with your Higher Self. Meditation is a simple one… though sometimes it doesn’t feel so simple.
I’d love to hear about your favorite way.
Feel free to share yours in the comment section below.
Love, joy, blessings,
Vicki
