5 Tips for Dealing with Life Changes in a Healthy Way

The lives of our ancestors may have been more raw and challenging in many ways, but in one way, they were easier — they were far more stable and unchanging. Our ancestors from the not too distant past (relative to human history) tended to hold one career, one marriage and one home or at least one home town for the entire span of their lives.

Today, most of us change these things at least once, if not multiple times. And each change creates the need for a transition. For most of us humans, big transitions stress us out — and stress often makes us sick.

Look at the list below. The Holmes and Rahe Stress Scale shows that these 10 things — all of them big life changes — are the top stressors in life. Each event is assigned a “Life Change Unit” score. These are then added together over a year and used to predict your risk of illness. For adults, the top ten most stressful life events and their “Life Change Unit” scores are as follows:

  1. Death of a spouse (or child*): 100
  2. Divorce: 73
  3. Marital separation: 65
  4. Imprisonment: 63
  5. Death of a close family member: 63
  6. Personal injury or illness: 53
  7. Marriage: 50
  8. Dismissal from work: 47
  9. Marital reconciliation: 45
  10. Retirement: 45

The point is this:  change is becoming more common and coming more rapidly, so we all need to get good at coping with change and transitions.

In this week’s video I share:

5 Ways to Take on and Move Through Transitions in a Healthy Way

Watch the video above and get the details on how to enact these 5 points:

    1. Practice Self-Love
    2. Help Your Inner Child Feel Safe
    3. Connect with Your Higher Self (watch the video for signs that you are truly connecting with your Higher Self
    4. Visualize/Feel Possible Positive Outcomes
    5. Trust and Love Life (Einstein said the most important decision you’ll make in life is deciding whether you live in a “friendly Universe” or not — do you?)

I hope these suggestions help you feel more ready to step into any transitions coming your way. As autonomous beings we usually feel better when we move into change willingly rather than get dragged in, so see if you can feel the winds changing and step into them.

May the transitions you choose to step into be exciting and awesome and may you make the most of each one!

Love and blessings,

Vicki

Vickie – what an excellent topic for this video! I don’t think I have ever heard this method of dealing with trauma and big changes (changing lands – great analogy): whoever thinks about dealing with the inner child first, before going to the higher self! Yet…this is exactly what feels right for me, and now that you have graciously shared this self-love method with us, I am going to keep that at the forefront, and probably save myself a lot of anguish in the back-and-forth struggle of trying to quash my inner child’s fears and concerns with my higher self’s logic and cool reason. You are right, that approach usually does NOT work!

I really appreciate this one…and you did just great in communicating what you meant, even with the wind trying to snatch away your words along with your hair, lol! Thank you so much – many blessings! 🙂
