~ Scorpio New Moon October 23 at 2:57 pm PST
~ Partial Solar Eclipse at 2:46 pm PST (visible from North Pacific & North America)
I have had a case of the “f$&k it’s” this week. Seriously. My butt has been kicked energetically and I am feeling tired, powerless, frustrated and fearful. I want to go hide in a dark cave on a high mountain and just stay there until… Something.
Sound familiar to anyone? And I am well aware that my problems are ones of quality and privilege.
But if I feel around the celestial, shamanic realms, I can confirm fairly confidently that my experience in the past days is directly aligned with the collective consciousness as we muddle through mercury retrograde and recover from the explosive Aries eclipse (along with other fiery alignments I can’t even begin to pretend I understand).
Aries and the other fire bearer’s, did their job. She cut and burned through us all. Lunar eclipses signify completions and while there are still two more in the lunar eclipse tetrad (group of 4 in a row), this full moon was incredibly potent. Aries fire is fast and brutal, and I can see her handiwork all over the planet, cleansing, clearing and humbling. She has prepared the way for the new moon on Thursday, her partner in this eclipse vortex, as Scorpio moon comes in under the veil of the sun.
If lunar eclipses are endings than solar are important beginnings. And anytime Scorpio is involved, we are talking about power. Great power that is up for grabs in the cycle ahead.
One of my Shamanic teachers says anyone can make a bid for power but then power will test you to see if you are worthy. I have been pondering that lately. I also have been thinking about something JK Rowling wrote in the first Harry Potter. As newly informed Harry gets his wand, one that shares a Phoenix feather with the infamous evil hewhosnamewedonotspeak, the seller says that we can expect great things from Harry, because hewhomustnotbenamed did great things. Terrible. But great.
Both of these reflections are Plutonian and Scorpionic. Pluto, who just reclaimed planet status, (like there was any doubt) is interested in depth and evolution. Scorpio, ruled by Pluto, makes it so through sex, death, money and spiritual work. Neither really sees things as good or bad, they don’t weigh worthiness or greatness in black or white. They see that you want power and that you are willing to wield it, they know it will create change and that is their MO.
As the dark powers are rearing their heads from the underworld, synchronistically just as the veils grow thin, we are seeing the power of violence, nature, disease, cruelty, ego, greed and ohsomuch fear. Aries and Mercury are bringing up the old wounds, real and imagined and Libra highlights the struggles in our primary relationships. The response is, like my own initially, one of futility and wanting to give up. However, there is another side, one that could flip the current powers on their head and rock even the lord of the underworld with it’s strength and worthiness.
Sometimes, admission of powerlessness, the execution of the ego and a sense of fear can be the fire needed to realize what is most important to us. It can become a willingness to get out of the way of our true fire, which is spirit, and begin to act from pure truth and love.
In many traditions, the surrender becomes the bid for power, but because it comes from the heart, it is much greater and worthier than power that is born from mind, though at first it may not seem that way.
Can we surrender fear for faith and selfishness for compassion? Can we bring appropriate power into our relationships, all of them, with self, partner, family, community, government, globe? Can we make a bid for power from a place of trust and quiet confidence that our vision of a better world is worth while?
I have sometimes heard this saying that you may lose the battle, but not the war. I feel that way, as I look around the world. But the war is ultimately in our hearts, minds and souls and there can be peace.
Approach this new moon from a place of respect, humility and surrender. Make your bid from the space beyond expectation. Pay attention to your dreams, your intuition, your loved ones. Let go of the results. Birth your strength allied with all realms and your deepest devotion.
Pluto and Scorpio may not play good or bad, but they do welcome depth and the soul will always hold more “water” than the ego. Scorpio is, after all, a fixed water sign, and in my experience, given the choice between a soul journey or an ego trip, she will choose the soul. It’s time to kneel down and then step up into your worthy, great and authentic power.
I am praying for the willingness to surrender and for sacredness in all the acts of power being made at this time. May we offer our hearts and from our humbleness may peace, healing and shared power prevail. And so it is.
Love and light,
Bekah
