It’s a pretty well-established fact that human beings are cognitively set up to remember up to seven items fairly readily. Still, I find that my clients who are new to learning about their chakras, find it hard to remember and differentiate these seven key energy centers.
They go into something I call “chakra overwhelm.”
So over the next seven weeks, I’m going to present the chakras in a very simple way that will help you to easily learn and remember each one’s essence – for good.
I’m going to associate each chakra with a memorable F-WORD (and no, none of them will be that one). I have found that a simple pneumonic device like having all the reminder words start with “F”, not only makes it remembering the chakras easier, but it also makes it more fun.
So, here we go…
Today’s F-WORD is for the first chakra that resides at the very base of your spine and governs your tailbone, legs and feet.
The word is FOUNDATION.
The first chakra represents our physical foundation for everything in our life.
It develops from inside the womb until age 7 with the deepest seated (and seeded!) development happening from the womb through the first year of life.
The first chakra is all about your roots, your family and your feelings of safety and security. It’s centered around survival and getting your basic needs met – which is certainly the foundational part of your existence.
It is also related to your grounded energy, your relationship with Mother Earth and your overall health and ability to fully inhabit your body and appreciate your physical existence.
It sets the stage, that is, the literal foundation for everything else you can build in your life.
Because of this, it’s about your ability to take care of yourself and take full responsibility for your own destiny, and it governs your basic relationship with money and career.
The first chakra is the foundation to everything in your life. Just as a tall redwood needs super-embedded roots and a high-reaching skyscraper needs an extra deep foundation, we humans need our first chakra to be really strong if we want to live a fully expanded life.
This means that if you had an unusually unsafe environment between the time you were conceived and your first year or two of life, you may need to do some deep, first chakra work to create a solid foundation in your life.
