3 Essential Lessons of Your Root Chakra That Will Help You Succeed

13

Your body has seven main energy centers called “chakras” and each one corresponds to an aspect of your life. Because of this, each of your chakras literally have lessons for you. In the lower realms, the lessons are more physical and worldly and in the upper realms, they are more spiritually-oriented. Some people think that means the more important lessons are in the upper chakras, but who’s to say?

I try to avoid that way of thinking. It’s sort of like racism for the chakras – something I like to call “chakra-ism.”

All aspects of our energy field are essential and each chakra has key functions and important lessons to teach us. In this video, and the six others I created for this series, I offer up three of the key lessons for one specific chakra.

In this case, I’m starting at the red root chakra that is the densest, slowest moving chakra of your body. It is located at the base of your tailbone, governs your legs and feet and is all about everything foundational in your life: your body and health, safety, organization, money and career – to name a few.

Here are the 3 Key Lessons of the Root Chakra:

1. Slow Down – Our culture reveres speed. We want everything to move fast, but the first chakra is all about the wisdom of slowing down. This lesson is one of those that is simple, but (for many) not easy. If you’re a speedy type, I challenge you to slow down for the rest of the day (and week if you can) and notice what shifts in your mind, heart and body. I think you’ll find that you become more present and relaxed. Give it a shot. Imitate the slowest people around you. Rather than push them to hurry up, model their pace and see what it feels like to slow down. After all, life is not a race. There is no finish line, except the grave, and as far as I can tell, nobody’s in any hurry to get there.

2. Embrace Manifestation – Sometimes we get caught up in a dual view of the world and see it as physical versus spiritual. And because the spiritual realm is so revered, we inadvertently make the physical world “less than.” I think it’s important to remember that the physical world (at base) is just spiritual energy that is moving very slowly. It’s time to let go of energy snobbery and embrace money and nice physical things. Anyone who has every looked at a beautifully crafted piece of jewelry, clothing or art knows that physical things – just like mother nature’s creation of a flower, a tree or a web – is utterly sacred. That’s why we are sometimes rendered speechless in an exquisite gallery or museum.

One of the lessons of the dense root chakra is to appreciate (and not judge) manifest things — as well as the money that can buy those manifest things. We have lots of adages about how riches can keep you out of heaven, but riches are neither good nor bad, it’s only what you choose to do with them that matters. Money is pure spiritual energy just like everything else, and if you’re heart is in the right place, you can do a lot of good in the world with it.

 3. Be Like a Tortoise – This is a cousin to lesson #1, but the tortoise isn’t just slow, it’s steady and tenacious. In the story of the tortoise and the hare, the slow, hard-shelled animal surprisingly beats the quick and nimble one by his sheer consistency; by the way he keeps plodding along. While the hare is all over the place – hither and tither – taking naps and wrong paths, the tortoise keeps taking one small step after the other toward his goal. There is so much to be said for being consistent, steady and tenacious. If you keep doing something, eventually you master it. If you keep going for your goal, you’re sure to cross the finish line. Our society tends to love things that are quick and glitzy, so we rarely praise the tortoise approach. That’s a shame. Anyone who has ever studied the biography of an Olympian athlete knows the consistent, daily training that goes into winning that gold medal. Yes, there’s nothing fancy about it, but it works. If you work hard, consistently and unceasingly, you’re bound to succeed. That’s what I call good, old-fashioned wisdom.

Hi Vicki! Wonderful video! Watching this is making me realize that I am naturally a very 1st chakra person but have been denying these qualities by always trying to speed up and catch up with the world. I need to embrace being slow in my work, accept my pace, and manifest without worrying about timelines. Namaste.
